Phil and Andrea are here for a visit!
We showed them Serengeti. They really took a shine to this game. Our first hand, they were just learning how to play: Phil 4, Andrea 13, Kathryn 20, Me 20. I beat Kathryn because I had more cards than she did 9 to 11. They learned quickly, because Andrea won the next hand: Phil 6, Andrea 22, Kathryn 16, Me 10. Then Phil went on to win the next hand: Phil 27, Andrea 18, Kathryn --, Me 13. Unfortunately, I was playing the game wrong. If no one has a card to collect the bid, the bid is divided evenly among the other players. I had taught them that the money goes into the back. With my variant, the back tends to stay liquid, encouraging people to pass and collect their two coins. Later in the week, playing according to the rules, the bank is quickly emptied out.
I also showed Phil how to play Keltis - the card game. He also noted how much this game is like Lost Cities. Since he was only learning, of course I won.
Afterward, I had to help with preparations for the holiday, so Andrea and Phil went on to play Trans Europa with Kathryn. When I joined back in Kathryn was beating us rather consistently.
